Basuki Dasgupta was born in Bishnupur, India, a town renowned for its terracotta temples. He started studying art in Shantiniketan in 1987, which gave him an opportunity to explore his various artistic inclinations. He completed his Fine Arts degree in 1992 and then started his Master's degree in Mural, where he got a clear vision of the term 'wall', whether visible or invisible.
He believes art has the spiritual dimension that can help one to transcend this 'wall' between man and nature - man and god. He then joined the Birla Academy, teaching painting and Art History and participated in several art exhibitions. Basuki’s work uses mixed media to depict his creations as he believes that the interplay of texture on rough surfaces of canvas reflect the present day's complexity of human relationships.
The highly textured murals-on-canvas mirror the earthy feel, textures and patterns found in terracotta temples of Bishnupur. Basuki Das Gupta currently resides in Tumkuru, India.
