Born in Pune [state of Maharashtra, India] in year 1970, Vaishali Oak lives and works in Pune. She is an established contemporary artist. Got married to fellow artist Raju Sutar in 2007. Obtained Government Diploma of Art in Drawing and Painting, and Masters Degree in (Painting). She has been experimenting with Textiles as her primary medium of expression since 1997 and has produced a large number of works. Her work is inspired by a simple village quilt called 'Godhadi' in her native region.
She received Junior Fellowship by Government of India, Ministry of Culture, in the field of Visual Art In year 2000. Disturbed by the horrific communal clash in Godhra, in Gujarat, in 2002, that fanned into ghastly riots, Vaishali spontaneously created a hard-hitting work titled ‘Flow of Death’ (After Godhra) that received a National Academy Award (2002)
Her work has been specially mentioned in the catalogue of the show celebrating 50 years of Lalit Kala Akademi called ‘Swarnarekha’.
Vaishali participated in several exhibitions held in India and abroad, she is also involved in conducting art appreciation workshops for the welfare of Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, Pune.
She was a part of 9th ‘From Lausanne to Beijing’ International Fiber Art Biennale Exhibition and Exchange. Guan Shan Yue Art Museum, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, (China) P.R., her work was awarded as 'Outstanding artwork' in this Biennale. Her works and her installation was a part of, an official collateral for Kochi-Muziris Biennale (INDIA) 2016 from 12th December 2016 to 29th March 2017. She participated in 12th International Contemporary Textile biennial, Scythia, Ukraine 2018. She was apart of 10th ‘From Lausanne to Beijing’ International Fiber Art Biennale Exhibition and Exchange 2018, which was held, at The Academy of Arts & Design Tsinghua University, Beijing. Participated in a group show ‘Thought is also a Matter’ curated by renowned artist and curator Raju Sutar a collateral exhibition, part of fourth edition Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018.
She was a part of Piramal Artist In Residency program in August 2019. She had been invited to represent India, and to show her artwork in, Invited Artists section in 8th ‘World Textile Art’ Biennial which took place in Madrid ,Spain, September 2019. She was a part of Invited Artist’s section in ‘Raigad Activista 2020’ an International art residency and exhibition, which took place at Sane Guruji National Memorial, Raigad, Maharashtra, 2020. During lockdown, in year 2020, she was invited by Reves art gallery Bengaluru, to participate in online creative engagement program. February 2021, display of her artworks and ‘Meet the artist’ event took place at Vida Heydari Contemporary Pune.
Her artworks are in collection with national and international collectors and corporate houses in India.
